One of the things that Apple gives the most coverage and importance to is the security of its devices. In this regard, the Californian company has launched a software update for Macs, Apple’s computers, in the last few hours to solve a series of security problems.
Whenever one of these versions is launched, our advice is to update immediately, to protect yourself against any possible vulnerability in the system.
Tech giant Apple has released an update for macOS 14.6, known as macOS Sonoma. The latest version of this operating system is 14.6.1, which is now available to all users.
This release comes with the promise of nipping in the bud an issue related to Advanced Data Protection (ADP) in iCloud, which was affecting a small number of users.
The previous version, macOS Sonoma 14.6, included the ability to run multiple displays from the M3-powered MacBook Pro, even with the lid closed.
This advancement was especially relevant for MacBook Pro models released in 2023, following its introduction on the M3-powered MacBook Air.
In addition to this functionality, the previous update brought with it important bug fixes and security improvements, according to Apple. Hurry up and update!
What’s new in macOS 14.6.1
The latest update is macOS 14.6. 1, focuses on resolving an iCloud-specific issue that prevented some users from successfully enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection (ADP).
This issue resulted in users who attempted to enable ADP and were unsuccessful receiving an error message and the user interface accurately reflecting that ADP was not enabled.
On the other hand, those who tried to disable this same system and encountered errors, saw the interface displaying ADP as disabled, while in reality, it was still active in their iCloud data.
With the new update, these users will receive a notification directing them to Settings, where they must confirm their decision to disable ADP.
In addition to macOS Sonoma, Apple is working on public and developer betas for macOS Sequoia 15, the next major update that is expected, presumably, in September or October.
A developer beta for macOS 15.1 is also being tested, which will bring Apple Intelligence features to Sequoia.
Apple, hand in hand with security
Along with macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Apple has released iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 for iPhone and iPad, respectively.
These updates are designed to deliver performance and security improvements, meeting the quality standards that Apple promises to its users.
The tech community has welcomed these updates, especially with the resolution of the ADP bug, which had raised some concerns among users who rely on iCloud for data security.
The ability to run multiple displays from the MacBook Pro with the lid closed is another feature that has been very well received, improving flexibility and productivity for professional users.
With an eye toward macOS Sequoia, developers and users are eager to experience the new features and improvements Apple will introduce in the coming months.
The integration of Apple Intelligence in future versions promises to take the user experience to a new level, making Apple devices even more powerful and secure tools.
